Autopilot / Multi-week Batch Notice...

Note: We're in the middle of a multi-week batch. This means (1) you should do one critique per week from the current batch, (2) the Critter Captain is likely unavailable, and (3) the Critters site is on autopilot (so send critiques as normal, but new manuscripts won't be processed). This will last until the next batch on 8-Jul-2009.

New on the Site

Information on the Google Books Settlement and the important Sept. 4, 2009 deadline. A postage calculator for those with an assortment of stamps for mailing manuscripts and want to add up to the right postage. A search box to find things on the site.

Take our Survey...

Please take our survey on reading and writing habits for information and fun... It's open to the public, so please spread the word so we can collect the most accurate data.

What is the Critters Workshop?

Critters is an on-line workshop/critique group for serious writers of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror. You get your work critiqued in exchange for critiquing the work of others, both of which are invaluable ways to improve your writing. It's run by Dr. Andrew Burt, former vice-president of SFWA and his army of software minions. Critters is free (except for the work of doing critiques!); if you find Critters useful, you may make a donation (appreciated but in no way required).

More Info

Check out a more detailed description of Critters and what it's like to send a manuscript through the workshop.

Our mission is to achieve a high level of participation in giving critiques on short stories, novel chapters, and entire novels in the genres of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror. The focus is on providing timely, helpful critiques. Our Rules are what make this work.

(And a steady hand on the tiller from the Critter Captain.)

Note To Pro Writers

Professional SF/F/H authors are most welcome, and we have many in the group. For one critique a month, voting SFWA/HWA members get immediate reviews of their work. If you don't mind a little humorous coaxing, drop in here.
